For this project, students were shown a variety of methods with which to paint in watercolor. Once the watercolors were dry, students worked together to cut out pieces and sort them by color for later use. Students then studied the rule of thirds and chose landscape photographs to sketch out, using that rule. Once the sketches were complete, students gathered their mosaic pieces to begin gluing. The pieces above are the result.
Students worked their magic in reverse during this highlight rendering activity. A thin coat of charcoal was placed on paper and then erased to create initial shapes and highlights. Shadows were created by adding charcoal.
