What ABOUT the SEA CRITTERS?

In this article I read about An Australian oil well has caught fire in the Timor sea. The company has said that the well has been leaking oil for 10 WEEKS. The engineers are estimating that they are spilling almost 400 barrels of natural gas and oil a DAY into the Ocean so that’s around 28,000 barrels of natural gas and oil in the past 10 weeks. So this oil has been drifter and sinking deeper into the ocean for the past 10weeks and they are just not starting to do something. Officials have put Birds and marine species at risk. Australia’s director of conservation said the Timor Sea has three endangered species of turtles plus sea snakes. Even a pygmy blue whales have been monitored in the Timor Sea.

Q: Do you think this will hurt diff. species of fish?

Q How much long do you think this will go on for?

It is hard to believe that this spill could go that long without being taken care of. I read in an article that chemicals to clean up and contain the spill had to be flown from Melbourne to the Timor Sea (located off the northern shores of Australia). The report said that they evacuated 69 people that were working on the boat that caused the spill. I found it kind of funny that they reported, “No-one was hurt in the incident.”, yet failed to mention the number of sea creatures that were put at risk because of this event. You think they would be especially concerned will all the oil released in the ocean considering all of the endangered species in that area you mentioned above. It really makes me wonder why they waited so long to begin to take action.

I think that this oil spill will be just like the one in Prince William Sound and kill many sea organisms and maybe even put some on the endangered species list. It will probably affect land organisms as well. I also think that this will go on until someone makes them stop the leek because it will cost them more to fix it that the oil is worth to them.

Oh my gosh! This is very shocking to hear! That is a lot of oil being spilled and i think is could be terrible. If this keeps up then many animals will suffer. I hope it’s not as bad as the Valdez Exxon where oil is still dug up from 20 years ago. Another good site that talks about this is http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601081&sid=a6aPROziqOwI

400 barrels of natural gas and oil a day! It is crazy they haven’t taken action on this matter. i don’t know how oil companies get away with this stuff after the Exxon Oil Spill. I would think they would have a system to clean up this oil. I think this spill will take awhile to clean up considering how much has already spilled. But I believe they will never get it all cleaned up because there is still oil in PWS after the 1989 spill.
