The first animal I would pick would be the King Salmon. I think the dance would be kind of difficult considering that a fish lives in the water, and has no legs or arms. The dance could represent a way of life. Around Cordova, without salmon, we wouldn’t be the fishing community that we are today. The dance could also show importance.
Next I would pick the black bear. Black bears are dangerous, but beautiful. They are very territorial, and deserve respect. The dance would represent the bear’s beauty, intelligence, and its strength. I think the dance would be hard because I wouldn’t know how to mimic being intelligent.
For the last dance, I would pick the eagle. Eagles are very beautiful, and smart. They are very powerful and large. Eagles are not small birds, their wing span can be as long as a person! The dance would represent respect honor.
In the pine dance I would walk around tall and proud waving my arms like branches in the wind. I would make it seem like I am fighting a storm that wants to knock me down. I would learn that they are strong and stand up to against any thing that comes their way.
When I dance the salmon dance I would focus on their migration, because they will go against all odds to get to their spawning grounds. Salmon already know where they are going and will jump rapids to get there. I would learn that they have perseverance.
Now for the wolf dance I would focus on how they always hunt in packs. Stalking around the fire and running as if to catch a deer. Wolves are rarely seen alone, because they rely on each other to survive. I would learn that wolves are dependent on each other and they are loyal.
I would choose as my first dance is the salmon dance. As my dance I would pretend that I am a salmon, swimming and going up streams to fertilized eggs so that the next generation could hatch. Then I would swim around pretending that there is water around me for a few minutes pretending that it is almost winter and that I am about to die. Then I would just lay down like a salmon that just sunk into the watery depths and die. What I would learn from that is an egg needs a father to live, just like everything else on earth.
The second dance I would perform is the tree dance. I would pretend to be a tree and stand straight and wave my arms around in the air like there is a big wind blowing me around. I would shake a little so that it would seem like that I am rustling just like a tree. I would suddenly bend down and up and keep doing it as if there is a storm around me. What I would have learned from that dance is that trees goes with everything that is thrown at it.
The third dance I would perform would be the eagle dance. I would pretend to be an eagle and fly around in the sky and make the fierce noise eagles make. I would screech at the sky, telling it that I am the king of the sky. I would hunt for food such as fishes so that I would fulfill my duty to survive. I would be a proud bird, flying the sky and be fierce. What I would have learned from that is that eagles are proud and fierce.
I think it would be hard to dance like animals, cause they don’t really dance. You would have to think of ways that would symbols the creature. First i would pick a plant, like a flower. they can start life over, by there seeds. I think that one would show how you let off your anger and give your kindness.
The next thing i would choose would probably be a mom bear, she protects her family. That’s how i am going to be when i grow older and have a family. They are strong, and fearless. They would fight until the end just for there family to be safe and that’s what i like about them. I would learn to be strong and powerful just like a bear. I would learn that you have to do what is right, and not just think of yourself all the time.
The last creature i would choose would be some kind of fish. They go up and down the current. Just like life, you have your ups and downs. I would learn that you have to live life to the fullest. Remember that every fish has to swim through waves.
For birds I would choose a eagle. I would dance the dance of a eagle by flapping my arms around and going in circles. The dance would show how the bird is strong and powerful. From the dance I would learn that certain things I do and say, can make me a powerful, good, and strong person.
For an animal I would choose a wolf, mostly because they stick with their packs and learn from each other. For the dance, i would trot around on my hand and feet and make myself look strong and fierce. From the dance I would learn that you need someone or some people to help you get through things in life, that way your life would be easier with some help.
The last thing i would choose would be a tree, because they stand tall and strong all by them self’s. For the dance of the tree, I would stand tall with my hands in the air slightly swaying back and forth. From this i would learn that even though you may be alone you can stand strong and get through things yourself.
All right, the Crow dance. I would dance around a tree and caw, like a crow. it would be a long and annoying dance just like a crow. I would learn that you can be free, without anybody caring what you do or how you act. Not to care what any body thinks.
Next i would do the Bear dance, prancing around and growling like a bear. It would be a crazy and dramatic dance. Jumping and killing a moose. I would learn to fend for myself and to be a killer. Also what its like to be on the top of the food chain.
The third dance I would do is the Moose dance. waving my hands in the air above my head as antlers. Charging people and eating grass (pretend grass). Making awkward noises and scraping trees with my antlers, then at the end a hunter would shoot me. I would learn by this dance that you always have to keep the circle of life going, and that not all the credit you get being big and strong, helps you in the real world. (being hunted).
Use this one.
I would do the bird dance. I would learn that birds have their own way of living. They also can be alone whenever they please, and they usually have no problem with it. They know how to ketch their own food. They also know how to survive without anyone’s help. They are very beautiful animals and they have a very nice way of showing it.
Then i would do the fish dance. I would learn how they swim around, and how they swerve. Also how they stay alive in their habitat and how they ketch their pray. I would also learn that the fish usually are not alone, they usually swim in schools or pairs. They are not good at being alone, but if their is a large group it is easier to stay alive. I would learn how graceful they are and how graceful they are at what they do.
Then i would do the insect dance. I would learn how they crawl around so very fast. Also how most insects stay alive and how they can keep themselves safe. They are not very beautiful insects, but they do have very interesting ways of staying alive and ketching their pray.
At last i would do the plant dance. I would learn how they are always so still. Also how they sway when its windy. I would also learn how the plants are very beautiful, and how they don’t usually sprout in the winter. They are very interesting to the world and some can be dangerous even when they look beautiful and nice.
I would do three dances; the fish dance, the bird dance, and the sea otter dance. The fish dance would seem to be very good because fish swim in schools. The movements would be swift most of the time, but then go very fast when there is danger. When there is danger you could get together for safety. Another good thing about being with others in a school is you can hunt better.
The bird dace would start out like the fish dace. Swift and smooth, but then you would see a fish and dive for it. After the fish was caught you could make loud sounds. This would show bragging and being proud of your accomplishment. Also eagles group up special times of the year. The eagle mating dace could also be done to show love and affection.
The sea otter dace would be fun and playful. It would have an otter diving for mussels, bringing them to the surface, and using a rock to crack them open. This would teach the use of tools. Sea otters are always grooming to stay warm this is like how we build cabin to keep us warm. There would also be lots of twirling and yelping.I think the sea otter dance would be the funnest out of all three dances.
First on my list is the salmon dance. It would be a lesson on how one can always find their home, even if they haven’t been there in a long time. I would start crouching in one spot. After a couple of seconds, I would move towards another point, slowly standing up as I do so. Once I reached that point, I would ‘swim’ in circles for a little while before moving back to my starting point. I would repeat this a couple of times before ending the dance.
There’s also the sundew dance. It’s meant to be humorous, but it can teach the lesson that there’s always something that differentiates from the norm. The entire time, I would be kneeling. I would start out with my hands cupped, like I’m trying to gather something. Slowly, I would look around, searching for my next meal. After some time of doing this, I would snap my hands shut, grinning. Next, I would put my eye up to my hands, then pretend to drop something into my mouth. The dance would end with me opening my hands up again to wait.
Last but not least, there’s the bee dance. It would show that everyone has a duty to do. I would hop from ‘flower’ to ‘flower’, pretending to gather pollen. Once I got to my ‘hive’, I would build an imaginary honeycomb and store honey in it. Then, I’d hear something and go out and poke it to simulate stinging, and so my dance would end.
I were honor plants with a dance, I would do some kind of slow graceful moving dance. I would start small, then become big and spread out. I would also show how plants give many living things energy. I would learn that plants are a very important in all living things life. Plants are also not fast growing, very slow they take there time they are in no rush.
I would also honor animals in dance, I would pick an animal and dance how they act. A whale is slow moving, and a wolf tends to be faster moving. I would also represent many kinds of animals in one dance. I would learn that all animals are different, many alike but none the same. I would see how animals are different here than they are anywhere else.
I would dance as I was flying, if I was to honor a bird. I would also move very peaceful, and calm. Yet each bird is different, some more graceful than others. A eagle flies higher and does not flap it wings as much, a crow flies lower and flaps it wings a lot more. I would also learn that birds are much different than animals.
I think the fish would be swimming in the ocean. It would not be alone. The fish would be in a school. I would learn that everyone would need someone there to be with him or her.
I think that birds would be sitting in tree hunting. It would not be just hunting for himself. It would be hunting for the female and the young. I would learn that when you share with others they would be nicer to you.
I think that a tree would be standing tall in the forest. It would be growing. When it gets very old it would get cut down. It would give use its wood to use to make things out of. The tree would give use a home to live in. I would learn that it is nice to give.
I think that would probably do a eagle dance. The dance would probably be about hunting. I would probably swoop around pretending to fly. Then I would Go down at the ground to catch a fish. I would learn that you need to be quick and careful when you are hunting also to only hunt when you need to.
Another dance that I might do is a fish dance. This dance would be more about staying away from predators. I would move forward then back again a few times. Showing that I am being caution of other animals in the sea, or above the sea. Then I would move faster showing that I am trying to get away from the predator. This would teach me that there are predators and that you should be nice to others. Bully I think would count as predators too. You should be nice to everyone.
The last dance that I would do would be a tree. It would be about being steady. First I would sway back and forth. showing that there is a little wind. Then as I go I would move a little bit faster showing that the wind is getting stronger. Then I would curl my feet into the ground showing that I have strong roots. This would teach me that I need to be strong. Also that I need help from my parents (roots)to go through my life. Some times I will need my parents to hold me down like the roots.
I would pick the eagle first. Soaring in the sky, as if they didn’t have any problems. If I were to do the eagle dance I would honor it by pretending to fly in the sky, circling the waters. Then swiftly swoop down as if I was going to catch a fish in the water. I would learn that no matter how hard life is, just keep soaring like an eagle and go on with life.
I would also choose the bear dance. To honor the bear i will peacefully walk around in the open with my bear cubs. Then pretend like I’m being threatened by humans so I let out a fierce growl to show them that I’m not scared. Then pretend as if i was drinking from a stream, and suddenly I throw my hand at the water pretending like it was a bears paw trying to grab a fish in the stream. From this dance, I would learn that, there are always going to be threats and struggles in life, but as long as you have family, you’re okay.
I would also do the wolf dance, and to honor the creature i will pretend to run and run. Then pretend like I’m drinking from a stream, then run more, along with the pack. Learning that like wolf packs, you need the help of others.
I would do a fish, a deer, and a hawk dance. For the fish I would pretend to swim around and flap my gills. For the deer I would bound around in a circle and use my hands for antlers. And for the hawk I would flap my hands like they are wings and pretend to fly around.
From the fish I would learn awareness and sense of direction, because when a fish is swimming in a stream they have to be aware of their surroundings. If they don’t they might get caught by a human, or eaten by a bear. So they can teach me a lot about being careful in different situations.
The deer would teach me responsibility and strength. because the deer has to provide for its family and make sure they always get something to eat. And they have to be strong to protect and defend their family to make sure nothing bad will happen to them. that is why the deer is a good model of responsibility and strength.
And the hawk can teach me to be patient. Because the hawk is always patient when hunting for food or waiting for food to even show up. So i think this bird would be a good roll model for patience.
I would probably do a dance for the salmon. I would imagine the life cycle, and how it’s left alone as an egg and fry, and has to find food and fend for itself. I would also imagine the trip to the ocean, and all the predators like fishing boats and other animals. The dance would be a slow beat, slithering around, looking for food, and then a faster beat as I’m carried into the ocean, being chased my boats and other animals. Then it would return to a slow beat, as I went back up the river. I would learn that even if your alone in life, you can be part of a good cause.
Another dance I would do is the mosquito dance. The mosquito dance would be a fast paced dance. I would imagine buzzing around, seeing everything that’s going on, getting trapped in rooms, always being swatted at, and scary spiders. I would make a buzzing noise, and circle a few time, then pretend to be trapped, and run around violently to show being swatted at. Then I would pretend to be stuck in a web. I would learn that sometimes the best way to survive, is to avoid everything negative in life.
The last dance I would do is the barnacle dance. The barnacle dance would be a slow dance. I would imagine being a barnacle and finding a rock to latch onto and would float around. Once I found a rock, I would stick to it and move where ever the rock moved, by pretending to be holding something big while floating around. Then I would imagine trying to grab particles of food, and wave my arms up and down the motion that the barnacle does. I would learn that sometimes the safest place to be is your home.
Slithering on the ground and crawling away from fast predators. I would move slowly and showing the strain of keeping safe. The drumbeat would be slow and speed as something is happening, salt is being poured on me and I shrivel. Then as I slowly die, the beat would get slower and slower until no movement or sound is left. I would learn it’s not easy being a slug and their slow struggle for survival.
“Bzzzz. Bzzzzz” I would sing as I circled many times then landed. The mosquito dance is at a fast tempo and as if a hand swings at me, I get scared and fly away. I look hesitantly and hope to find something for brunch. Far in the distance I see a group of people, looks like it’s a feast today! I swarm through the crowd, in the dance I am just swarming and looking. I stop and pause, then fear sets into my eyes and “smack, squish” I fall to the ground. The mosquito was just trying to find a meal and what did it get, a big smack! I learn that the mosquito will try everything for it’s meal and risk its very life.
I fall to the ground and start to roll; I am doing the pinecone dance. I keep rolling until I settle, then I make motions of covering myself with dirt for planting. I struggle to reach out of my formed shape and start to grow. One arm pops out and soon my legs become roots, I am a tall Spruce tree and I sway in the wind. I will sway in the wind for many years, until my trunk can take no more. A motion of dropping something and that is my very own pinecone, it too will grow into a mighty tree like me. I learned that the trees need to drop the pinecones, so we can have more trees and what a journey for a pinecone from its mother tree to it’s resting spot.
The fish dace. The fish dace would be like a waltz, a slow graceful dance. The slow and gracefulness would represent the slow and calm swim through a lake. Then just like the a fish going through rapids the dance would get faster and faster moving into a tango. This dance shows how hectic it is going up rapids. By understanding this it helps me realize how a fish has to live most of it’s live in motion. Then knowing that you can see how your life reflects from it.
Then I would do the tree dance. It would be like a slow peaceful dance. Gentility swaying back and forth like a tree in the wind. I learn that tree live a long life and that it always ends in some way and some time. Weather the death is form a chainsaw or natural you must live it while it lasts. The dance will end in a death, peaceful or not you choose.
The last dance will be the butterfly dance. Fluttering around going every where. Then the wind comes and catches you off guard. The lessen is that you have to be ready for everything because just a little blow you off balance. So if you spread your wings out and just go with everything that hits you, you won’t be pushed around.
I would do the skunk cabbage dance. It would start slow and on the ground and then I would slowly come up. It would be very hard to try and be a skunk cabbage. As all the snow melted I would get big and tall. Then I would be a person walking by and plugging their nose form the stink. Then I would be eaten by a slug. This dance would show that even if something doesn’t look pretty from the outside it can be very important to other animals. That would make me realize that i cant judge people from just looking at them. I have to get to actually know them to find out if they are a good person or not.
Another dance I would do would be the earthworm dance. I would start out inching along the ground like a worm. Then I would pretend to eat something gross looking from the ground. Next, the dance would be digesting the food and then pooping it out, leaving behind nice clean dirt. This shows that no matter how small the animal is, it is important. Worms make clean dirt for us and even if people don’t realize it, they are a huge part of the ecosystem.
The last dance I would do would be the fish dance. I would start out swimming through the ocean and getting eaten by a seal. Then, I would be another fish getting eaten by a shark. Then, I would be a school of fish and show that as a school, fish are much safer and much less likely to be eaten. I would do that by making my hands the fish and myself a shark and trying to eat my hands. This would teach me that if I stay together with other people we will all be much stronger.
I would do the flower power dance. In this dance I would need an umbrella. The umbrella would be used for over dramatized upward motions symbolizing a plant growing. Then I would come up and bloom with happy movements and twirling around the umbrella, for a very short time. The I would drop the umbrella and fall symbolizing a plant withering a dieing. from this dance I would learn the deep struggle a flower gos through for just a few days of light and happiness.
The next dance I would bring into play the ant dance. By frantically scurrying here and there. Then I would make a huge pile of rocks at the feet of someone. After I placed the last stone I would slowly back away as if in respect. From this dance I would hopefully learn how the unity of ants all bringing food back to their hill is inspiring. Ants will just go around if something is in their way or if their hill they will automatically start reconstruction.
The last dance that I would dance would be the the humming bird dance. In this dance I would swing my arms fast in tight little circles representing a humming birds wing beat. then I would run around in circles making very unsure movements. then at the last second I would be going fast and smack into the air which would represent a window. In this dance I hope that everyone would learn not to be insecure like a humming bird.
One dance that I would dance would be the Spruce tree dance by swaying and waving my branches around in the wind. I would also wiggle around like a squirrel ran up my trunk, but always keep my feet planted. Towards the end of my dance I would fall over and be new life for other animals. By dancing I would learn that everything in the world uses other things for new life. I should also learn that even some of the biggest things could fall down and end.
Another dance would be the mosquito dance. I would fly around from thing to thing pretending to suck the blood while making a buzzing/humming noise. When I would suck the blood I could pretend to be full afterward. By doing the mosquito dance I should learn that small things needs to stay alive to keep the food chain in order. Also that by biting us is how they stay alive.
A dance that I could also do would be the bear dance. I would walk around with my head down low sniffing for food and do a lumbering walk. Then I could pretend to be in a stream with my head under water looking for fish and when one comes by snatch it up in my mouth. I would then pretend to dig at the ground and find a whole bunch of roots to eat. The bear dance would teach me to survive on the wilderness more because it eats foods that I would eat too and knows how to get them easily.
I would do a dog dance to honor dogs. In the dance there would be lots of barking and sniffing the ground. Also I think I would have to fake pee on a fire hydrant, chase my tale, and do lots of circles before I sit down in the end of the dance. I would learn that being like a dog is fun at times when you don’t have to worry about anything and you can do you business any were you want.
I would do a flower dance to honor all flowers. It would be kind of a slower dance because plants don’t grow very fast. I would start off really low to the ground in a ball and then slowly rise up, expanding my arms, fingers, and head, as I got taller. This flower dance would symbolize growth of a plant and I would learn that all living things grow up to be bigger.
I would do an eagle dance to honor birds. In the dance I would walk around with my arms out to represent gliding, and then after a while I would start a circular pattern when I am walking. All of a sudden I would break out into a sprint, tightening my arms closer to my body and then swiftly grab another little bird with my feet. I would learn that different animals have different ways of catching there own food.
If I was doing dances like in the book touching spirit bear I would do the devils club dance and I would stand there. I would stand close to the fire and poke anyone who got to close. I would then spread my hands away from me to imitate leaves and contract them after a few minutes. From the devils club I would learn that you would only get hurt if you try to hurt it.
For my second dance I would dance a spruce tree dance. I would start on the ground and slowly rise up. I would take some rocks on the way up. Then when I was standing all the way up I would drop some rocks at regular intervals. Finally, when I am out of rocks I will fall over. From spruce trees you learn strength, endurance, and pride.
Finally, for my last dance I would dance the crow dance. First I would pretend to fly from place to place. Then I would start towards the fire. First, I would start a few feet away, slowly working my way in towards the fire. The fire pops and I flee, but only till I know the threat is gone. Then I work my way back to the fire and my dance ends. From the crow I learn caution and perseverance.
