Course Description

American Literature is a survey of the more well-known writing of our country. The course will have four themes:

1st Quarter                Early works/Founding Fathers

2nd Quarter             “The Great Thinkers”

3rd Quarter               The Romantic American novel

4th Quarter               The Changing American Dream

Students will use several texts, digital documents and teacher generated materials.

We will investigate the changes and development in literary thought as well as literary technique and terminology. Writing emphasizes responses to literature and organizing/creating a well argued/documented essay. We will endeavor to thoughtfully approach both our reading and writing.
